From Kinder to College, Our Field Trips Inspire Like No Other Program
Elementary Students
The mechanical magic and storytelling behind animatronics create the perfect medium to get students’ imagination and creativity working in new and exciting ways. Tapping into the inherent sense of wonder and amazement that students experience when they begin creating the same lifelike movements and effects they observe in animatronic figures is our primary objective when working with elementary school students. In this context, exploring careers across the creative industries becomes implicit because students are not just hearing about the different jobs required to create their favorite animatronic figures, they are doing the very work themselves!
Middle School Students
Consistent with adolescent psychology, our educational emphasis with Middle School Students is supporting the development of a positive and productive self-image as it relates to a beginning sense of personal and professional agency required to set and reach big goals. Sharing Garner’s personal story supports this effort and gives middle school students a tangible, real life example of someone who began his career around the same age they are, and who refused to allow obstacles and setbacks to deter him. Now, through hands-on experiences that require effective communication and collaboration with others, and with the knowledge that they too have what it takes to follow their dreams to their greatest fulfillment, students begin to explore and practice technical skills that they can clearly see lead to the jobs and careers required to create animatronics and so much more.
High School Students
Inspiring and supporting decisions to pursue higher education and post-secondary training, and providing real-world-of-work examples why this is so important, is our primary educational goal with High School Students. We achieve this through hands-on experiences that challenge students to practice their creativity, communication, collaboration and critical thinking in applied contexts that integrate technical skill development in rigorous and authentic ways. We believe that giving high school students opportunities to practice the kind of sophisticated work that is done at Garner Holt Productions, and to do it a manner that mirrors the interdependent nature of the way projects come to fruition there, is the best way to making learning relevant and connected to a much bigger picture of 21st century workforce they will one day join and help to create.
Post-Secondary Students
Creating the conditions for highly engaging, student driven learning opportunities is the educational goal when working with students at the Post-Secondary level. This requires pushing students to consider what they already know and are able to do, and then providing enough space for experimentation, prototyping and iteration to occur so what seems impossible becomes reality and the unimaginable comes to life. It’s in this intersection of innovation and entrepreneurship that Garner Holt Productions exists, and it is the place where we hope to inspire students to see themselves as they rapidly approach the beginning of their careers.
Exposure to Dozens of Careers

Research shows that students’ reported levels of engagement with their learning and sense of hope for the future are stronger indicators of future success than any standardized test scores or GPA. What better way to positively affect these outcomes than by bringing students face-to-face with careers that tap into, and help them discover, interests, talents and passions for work they could ultimately see themselves doing for the rest of their lives.

This truly was unlike anything I'd ever seen before! It was enlightening! I had always been curious about how animatronics work and I learned that during my visit. Thank you!! OH, and I actually got a chance to shake hands with Garner Holt himself!! Thank you again for the opportunity you provided me as well as my 6th graders! We truly appreciated it and found it memorable!!

The girls in my Troop loved the tour. The girls talked all the way home on all the stuff they got to see and all the stuff the learned it was an amazing opportunity for them. Thank you for the learning experience.

Tammie W.
Girl Scout Leader

The professionalism, knowledge, and enthusiasm of the GHP staff enhanced the experience for teachers, parents, and students. I appreciated the opportunities for students to independently problem-solve during the hands-on activities.

Allen G.
Special Education Teacher

The Garner Holt field trip was the ultimate demonstration of what S.T.E.A.M. is supposed to be about. If more schools and districts could see how multiple disciplines interrelate in the real world, perhaps then we could change the way education is being delivered to our students for the better. Garner Holt and companies like it show proof as to why we should fight to keep “shop” classes in our high schools. The skills gained in those classes are the same skills needed to succeed across all industries.

Ben N.
Academy Director

GHP is such a creative, stimulating workplace! I appreciated the opportunity for students to learn about fun, fulfilling jobs where they don’t necessarily need a traditional college education. The focus on learning, creating, and following their passions was a wonderful lesson for the kids.
